The holiday season is officially upon us! This is usually a happy and joyful time for most, however it can get overwhelming. Sometimes the expectations placed upon us by friends and family (or ourselves!) can quickly turn the happiest time of year into a trap for stress, anxiety and exhaustion. Here are some rules I live by to maintain my peace of mind over these next couple of months.
Just Say No
If you’re the type who hates saying no to any type of social gathering, the holiday season is going to keep your schedule jam packed! Don’t let FOMO get the best of you. Try to keep your schedule balanced and flexible, and only do as much as your energy levels allow. Keeping from overcommitting your time will be the best gift you can give yourself.
Find Your Groove
Not everyone gets in the spirit in the same way. Whether it’s covering your home in pine scented candles, hosting an epic holiday party or hibernating in the comfort of your home until the new year, we all have the things that bring us joy. Maybe sending out holiday cards is not your thing, and you’d rather spend that time watching old movies by the fire. Find the things that make you light up inside and put your energy there. Try to ignore the pressure to do it all.
Don't Fall Into The Holiday Health Downgrade
We all know the feeling of sliding down this slippery slope and then spending the first few months of the year trying to climb our way back up. My trick? Don’t slide down too far in the first place! Despite being surrounded by endless treats and the cold weather tempting you to skip those morning workouts, do your best to resist. Stay on track as much as possible and find healthier options to sub in for holiday favorites – try this Pumpkin Pie Parfait recipe to satisfy your holiday sweet tooth!
