FAQS

Our answers to your frequently asked questions.

CBD is one of many cannabinoids found in hemp. Cannabinoids have been used for centuries and we even have a system in our body, the endocannabinoid system associated with these compounds.

We sure do! The endocannabinoid system is recognized as an important modulatory system in the function of brain, endocrine, and immune tissues. It is believed to play an important regulatory role in the secretion of hormones related to mood, pain, and response to stress.

CBD is cultivated from hemp plants that produce high amounts of CBD and low amounts of THC. So, while both are from the cannabis genus of plants, the difference is that hemp contains no more than 0.3% of THC, the psychoactive substance found in marijuana. The purpose of the cultivation, and the product produced in turn, is quite different.

CBD and THC are cannabinoids that are both found in the cannabis plant. It's important to know that CBD is different from THC. CBD is non-intoxicating and non-psychoactive, so it does not have the ability to get you high. THC is the psychoactive component found in marijuana.

Some people may be concerned with the risks involved with CBD in large part due to the taboo nature of cannabis. But some of those fears were relieved when the World Health Organization released a paper that called CBD oil safe for human use. According to the WHO, "CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile." If you are interested in reading more, please see the study here.

Hemp seed oil is produced by and extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. It is rich in omega 3, 6, 9 fatty acids but does not contain CBD. CBD is extracted from the whole hemp plant.

Like most things, there is no magic answer. The amount and form of CBD to take is very personal to you and depends on purpose, your individual body make-up, dietary habits, and what you might be trying to accomplish by taking it. What’s right for your friend, may not be what’s ideal for you. Most professionals in this area suggest you "start low and go slow". Start with a small dose and hold it there for at least a week to note how you feel. Make tiny adjustments up or down if needed. Remember, everyone is different. Once you find the dose that works for you, keep it there – with CBD, more is not always the right answer. Talk to your doctor about any specific questions or concerns about how CBD fits with your current situation. These aren't official recommendations, but rather helpful guardrails.

This can be different be everyone and depends on the specific product. Here are some suggestions:

GLOSSARY

A list of definitions for all the terms you might not be familiar with.

Full Spectrum

Full Spectrum CBD: Phytocannabinoid rich, full spectrum CBD is an extract of the full flower. It is hand-picked to preserve and protect the sensitive cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids present in the natural source. Because it contains an array of compounds, full spectrum CBD is associated with the "Entourage Effect". Full spectrum CBD contains trace amounts of THC at <0.3%.

Broad Spectrum

Broad Spectrum CBD: Broad spectrum CBD is the middle ground between Full Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate. This extract contains some of the additional compounds found within the hemp plant. Broad spectrum extract undergoes additional processing to remove the THC component of the natural source to non-detectable levels.

CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940. It is one of 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and is the second most prevalent chemical in most strains of cannabis. Unlike THC, it is essentially nonpsychotic, so it will not result in a high.

Cannabinoid

A class of compounds that react with the body’s cannabinoid receptors. CBD and THC are cannabinoids.

Hemp

Cannabis with a THC content below 0.3 percent usually grown for industrial use. All hemp is cannabis, but hemp is not marijuana because it lacks enough THC to produce a high.

Entourage Effect

The concept that the compounds found in the cannabis plant-cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids-interact in symphony with each other so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts when it comes to the medicinal effect of the plant. This is why some cannabis advocates encourage users work with full spectrum CBD rather than pure CBD isolate.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone that regulates the sleep–wake cycle. It is produced by the human pineal gland. As a supplement, it is often used for the short-term treatment for sleep trouble such as from jet lag or shift work.

L-Theanine

L-theanine is an amino acid found most commonly in tea leaves, particularly green tea. Clinical trials link L-theanine to relaxation and sleep quality.

THC

THC is a compound in cannabis that can induce psychoactive effects such as a euphoric high.
